Gorey is a thriving market town an hour’s drive from the southern outskirts of Dublin. It is a pretty town with a growing population of 12,000 people.
It has two modern hotels with leisure centres, five major supermarkets as well as a wide selection of shops all along the main street. There are beautiful boutiques and restaurants offering everything from Italian, Thai and Chinese to Irish food. The pubs range from the modern to the authentic with a healthy offering of traditional music and entertainment.
There is a wide variety of sports clubs on offer from the ever popular tennis and rugby clubs to gymnastics, martial arts, badminton, GAA and golf to name a few.
Courtown is a seaside and fishing village 5km from Gorey. It is a holiday destination for Irish people and has wondeful amenities which Gorey Language Centre avails of regularly. Apart from the beautiful sandy beaches all along the coast, there is a public leisure centre with a 25m pool and slides, ‘Gravity’ which is a ropes assault course through the trees including zip wire, wall climbing and the dreaded ‘leap of faith’!
There is also a bowling alley for those rainy days and a wonderful outdoor crazy golf course themed on pirates. There are relaxing forest walks all around the village and a sailing club in the harbour.
Both Gorey and Courtown are situated in the county of Wexford along with the other major towns of this area, Enniscorthy, New Ross and Wexford town itself.
During the summer there are festivals on in a lot of the towns and villages of Wexford. There is always something happening and we do our best to coincide our excursions with special activities which might be going on in the area.
